The problem was that there are so many other versions of the game for a much lower price. It's been out of production for a very long time. Hopefully I'll be able to get around to beating the Hard difficulty soon. I will now replay Cave Story (on the eShop version) for like. WiiWare, PSP, DSi, and others, although very good ports, now feel incomplete without the extended features and extra levels. The interface also feels much smoother compared to the DSi version. Cave Story eShop goes further, and although there are no more options for new graphics and music (they weren't that great anyway), the resolution is upped greatly with an additional widescreen option and pretty good 3D for a game with sprites. Obviously the freeware version is the original, but the + version has all of the necessary features of a port (Curly Story, the different difficulties, option between new/old graphics/musicX2, and all of the extra levels). After the eShop release, I have concluded that these are the definitive versions of Cave Story:
